We are Dennis, Rosa, Cas and Puck Maij from Grootebroek in North Holland.
Since 26 November 2024, we have been the proud owners of the beautiful Liabaquet.
It all began with a quiet dream Dennis had, years ago, which suddenly took shape in September 2023, after we returned from a holiday in the Auvergne region of France. That was when Dennis’s dream suddenly became Rosa’s dream too. The following year, in May, things suddenly moved quickly once we’d decided to sell our house.
In June 2024, we travelled to the Dordogne and Haute-Vienne regions of France for four viewings. We based ourselves at Liabaquet gîtes et camping, as it was beautifully situated in a central location. Without realising it, we found ourselves in Tom and Anita Hermens’ paradise, and were given a warm and heartfelt welcome by these lovely people: we felt right at home straight away.
We told them about our plans to emigrate, whereupon they told us that this place would be put up for sale in the autumn. The viewings came to nothing, but… The children actually put into words what we were feeling ourselves: “Mum and Dad, we’ll only move to France if we get to live on the campsite.” And so it came to pass.
Here in the north of the French Dordogne, we’ve found our dream spot. Plenty of space, peace and quiet, keeping sheep and chickens, and a vegetable garden that we’re expanding so we can live more self-sufficiently. What’s more, we both love cooking and making others feel at home.
We are thoroughly enjoying this adventure and look forward to welcoming you to our little paradise.
